Every $3 play gets a unique 10-digit Gold Ball number at no extra cost, and one is drawn every Wednesday and Saturday. That winner is guaranteed a prize — the Gold Ball Jackpot Draw decides how big it is.
The draw starts with 30 balls: 29 white and 1 gold. If a white ball comes up, the winner takes $1 million, that white ball is removed for next time, and $2 million is added to the jackpot. So the pot grows and the odds improve together, until the gold ball finally appears. The jackpot starts at $10 million and can reach $68 million before it resets.

Lotto 649 is Canada's national lottery game and costs $3 per play. Each play gives you six numbers from 1 to 49 for the Classic Draw, plus a unique 10-digit Gold Ball number at no extra cost.

Since September 2022 the Classic Draw jackpot has been fixed at $5 million — it no longer rolls over. The money that used to build the jackpot now feeds the Gold Ball Jackpot, which starts at $10 million and climbs to as much as $68 million over up to 30 draws.

Draws are held every Wednesday and Saturday. Ticket sales close at 10:30 PM Eastern on draw nights — that's 9:30 PM Central, 8:30 PM Mountain and 7:30 PM Pacific.
Draws are conducted in Toronto by the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation using a certified random number generator, which replaced the ball machines in May 2019.
The largest Lotto 649 jackpot was $54.3 million, won in October 2005 by a group of oil and gas workers from Camrose, Alberta.
That record is now permanent. With the Classic Jackpot fixed at $5 million, no future Lotto 649 Classic Draw can beat it.
